Today my latest issue of National Geographic Magazine arrived. It always makes for an exciting day as I not only learn but also have fun with that lovely publication. As I was flipping through my magazine my sandwich man Mike arrived and pointed out how much he loves NGM and the photographs in them. I agreed and the discussion evolved into environment protection and forests...
Then an idea popped into my head; according to my still weak historical knowledge England at one time was covered by forests around 50% until the ship building destroyed most of that, now wgilst we are preoccupied with the rain forest (which I agree is crucial to our planet) we are forgetting other forests! So my idea was if somebody actually undertook the project of purchasing land in England and planting trees native to England we could re-create the forests and also provide this big island with a pair of lungs.. Just imagine if there was enough forest in this country and pollution was reduced enough this country could eat up all of the CO2 it makes by having a forest large enough! It would not even be a problem with forests consuming what would be habitable space as in any other Western country people round here generally live in towns, cities with wast spaces of unused land in between...
The best part is this could be implemented in any country and forests could be restored maybe even the natural balance in this worl would head back to normality. Who knows?
One thing really is confusing me - why nobody important is not suggesting this. I mean someone important enough that people qould actually listen to...
